Northumberland Grain is a diversified agri-retailer that offers a complete line of services to Northumberland and surrounding counties, including:  fertilizer blending and custom application of crop inputs and crop protection products, sale of seed plus grain handling, marketing and other related agronomic services.   To meet the needs of its customers, Northumberland Grain has three full service locations - Belleville, Brighton and Cobourg.

Northumberland Grain was founded exclusively as a grain elevator by Robert Elliott in 1980.  Initially, the facility had a grain storage capacity of 1000 MT and could dry 200 bu/hr; corn comprising 90% of the business.  In 1984, Dexter Harder became a shareholder and in July 1996, a three-way partnership was formed between Agrico-Robert L. Whitelaw, Dexter & Karen Harder and Ben Currelly-Ganaraska Grain. In the spring of 1997, crop inputs were added to the business, transforming Northumberland Grain into a diversified agri-retailer.  In April 2002, the company purchased Agrico’s farm centre in Cobourg.  In September 2005, Ben Currelly exited the partnership, facilitating the 50/50 joint venture between Agrico and the Harders.  In December 2007, Northumberland Grain purchased Hunco Farm Supplies.  Subsequently, in the summer of 2008, the company consolidated its Cobourg operations from the old Division Street location to the newer and more efficient former Hunco facility on the western edge of town.  In December 2009, the company complimented existing resources and continued to expand through the purchase of Agrico’s Belleville Farm Centre. In the fall of 2011, La Coop federee acquired Agrico Canada Ltd.

Northumberland Grain continues to grow, increasing market share in all facets of the business providing customers with exceptional service, the latest technology and knowledge enabling them to make decisions to keep our farm families profitable and successful in the future. Our future is our farmers.
